Building a warm little house for my cat Tom

🇺🇸 Written in English

As a true animal lover, I want to give my dear four-legged friend the best. Even though my cat Tom has plenty of sleeping places and toys in the house. Still, Tom prefers to be outside. Unfortunately, it’s snowing. If he hates anything, it’s cold, wet paws. Now I feel so sorry for him today. For several days, Tom has been sitting mournfully at the door meowing to finally be allowed to go outside again. So I decided to build him a cat house in the garden. As a surprise. Then he can still be outside, watch the birds fly by and not have cold, wet paws.

My idea is to make the house two meters wide, three meters deep and two and a half meters high. I was able to download a decent construction drawing from the Internet. Now I just need to buy materials to build the cat house. Let’s see what to put on my list for the hardware store:

  • A hammer
  • A saw
  • Nails
  • A tape measure
  • A helmet
  • Wood
  • Blue paint
  • Brushes
  • Band-aids (you never know)
  • Pillows for Tom

Building was not as easy as I thought after all. You can’t start building something this colossal inside. Because, how am I going to eventually move it outside? I can’t because it will be too heavy and too big. I am unfortunately not super strong enough for it. The thick pack of snow also makes starting to build outside impossible. Not even talking about how cold it is at the moment, brrrrrr.

Fortunately, the neighbor came to visit. He had become curious as to why a truck was coming to unload a big pile of wood in my yard. When he heard of my idea, he became wildly enthusiastic. He is a carpenter by trade and was very eager to help me.

Nevertheless, it was still quite a task for my neighbor and me. We hadn’t finished yet, or it started to storm. As a result, the cat house collapsed last week. After we were almost finished for the second time, a branch flew through the window. Soon after, the wind ripped a few tiles off the roof. Today, when I wanted to paint the interior and exterior, it turned out that four meters of snow had fallen last night! I give up. This is never going to work again.

Fortunately, my neighbor did not know how to give up. Without my knowledge, he and his wife spent hours shoveling snow. Then they painted the inside and outside and even installed a stove! When I heard about it, I made delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows. Tom got extra milk instead of chocolate milk.

Not only I was very pleasantly surprised. As soon as Tom saw the giant cat house, he immediately went exploring. Once inside, he immediately found his place. I haven’t seen Tom in my house since. From my chair I now see him sitting in front of the window every day.
