Bamse walked into the supermarket with a clear list: cucumbers, muesli, and honey. He loved grocery shopping. Not because of the food, but because of the unexpected moments.
In the produce section, an employee was carefully placing red peppers on the shelf. “Are you looking for something special?” he asked attentively. Bamse pointed to the cucumbers. “They don’t suddenly turn into pickles, do they?” he said with a wink. The employee laughed. “Only if they get homesick for their jar.”
In the cereal aisle, a mother and her daughter were hesitating between muesli and cornflakes. Bamse winked. “Cornflakes are good for busy mornings. Muesli is for days when you have time.” The mother smiled and chose both.
An elderly lady stood by the honey, whom Bamse recognized from the park. “This jar comes from a local beekeeper,” she said. “Very mild in flavor.” Bamse thanked her and put the jar in his basket.
The checkout was busy. A man accidentally dropped a carton of milk. Bamse helped him clean it up. “Thank you, young man,” said the man. “Sometimes everything goes wrong.” Bamse nodded. “But sometimes everything goes right. Like a free smile,” Bamse replied in his mind.
With his groceries and a good feeling, Bamse walked outside. The sun was shining, a dog barked cheerfully, and a little girl waved at him from a cargo bike. Bamse waved back.
Nothing magical had happened in the supermarket. But it still felt special. Just because people were nice.
