Regularly I go to a café. I do this not only to enjoy their delicious coffee and apple pie. I take this opportunity to write my stories. One Tuesday morning, I was working unsuspectingly at an article. A waitress came to bring my coffee. As a result, my eyes fell on a woman who was looking at me penetratingly. Is she a fan and did she want my autograph, or was she unsure if I am the real Bamse? Or did she want to ask me something else? Did I perhaps not know her from somewhere?
Still deep in thought from all these questions, she unexpectedly stormed toward me. She grabbed my bag that was next to my table and ran toward the exit. The waitress, who by now was giving coffee to the next customer, noticed the incident. She tried to run after the thief. Fearing she would drop the coffee off her tray, she failed to catch the thief. Deep in shock, I watched the thief run away. But wait, she doesn’t just have my bag. Under her other arm, the thief is also carrying my laptop. I never expected this, I was robbed!
I’ve been robbed!?
The police were quickly on scene to investigate. The waitress, several customers and I were questioned. When asked about the woman’s appearance, I could not give a specific description. The whole incident happened far too quickly. Besides, I considered my bag containing my wallet, phone, notebooks and my laptop much more important. As a comfort, this time I did not have to pay for the coffee and apple pie.
In the evening, the police came to my door. They had found my bag in a abandoned alley not far from the café. Delighted, I looked inside the bag. My notebooks and pens were all still in there. But my phone, wallet and laptop were not in the bag. Disappointed, I thanked the officers. They advised me to call the bank tomorrow morning to have my credit card blocked. Hopefully the bank could make arrangements for a new laptop and phone.
Two days passed until something unexpected happened. A man knocked on my door. In his hand he held a phone and wallet. He said he had found them on top in a garbage can and had made the effort to track down the oowner. How incredibly grateful I was to this man for his efforts.
The end
In the end, I just had to buy a new laptop. Fortunately, I still had a backup of my files which allowed me to get back to work quickly. This incident made me realize how life can change very quickly. But also how dependent we are on our stuff these days. So be careful so no one can easily run away with it.
