This morning, I woke up groggy. My head was pounding and my throat itched. As soon as I tried to get up, my bear body felt heavy. Instead of getting up, I dragged myself out of bed. Once in front of the mirror, my eyes were red and puffy. I splashed water on my face, hoping to feel better. With a large glass of water, I swallowed an aspirin and slowly crawled into bed. Pulling the covers up to my chin, I let out a deep sigh, closed my eyes and tried to rest.
I’m not sick, am I?
As the day wore on, the symptoms got worse: the coughing and sneezing were really hurting. My body felt like it was on fire. My mother came in and brought a bowl of hot soup.
“Thanks, Mom,” I said in a barely audible, cracked voice.
“Don’t worry, darling,” my mother said. “I’ll take good care of you. Enjoy your soup and rest a little longer.”
With my mother by my side, I knew I’d get through the flu. In the end, I spent three days in bed, sick, before being able to play soccer outside again.
