At the dentist

🇺🇸 Written in English

Ever since I was a little bear, I have been incredibly afraid of the dentist. The sterile smell and the loud sound of the drill make me anxious. The worst part is the anesthetics: such a long needle in my mouth. Brr… These terrible experiences make me prefer to postpone my dental appointments as long as possible. Now I have been suffering from toothache for a few weeks. Because the pain has become tremendously unbearable, I can’t postpone now. So I called the clinic to make an appointment.

At the dentist

The same afternoon I was able to visit the clinic. A friendly dental assistant led me to the treatment room. But the closer I got to the dental chair, the more nervous I became. The panic I felt inside made me want to run away immediately. In the same instant, the dentist shook my hand. His broad smile and white teeth did not make my situation any more comfortable.

As the dentist began his treatment, I tried to distract myself. At first, I paid particular attention to keeping my breathing under control. Then I tried to look around the treatment room. On one of the clean white walls hung a large colorful wall unit. I found it difficult to understand exactly what it was supposed to represent and asked about it.

My question made the dentist smile again and told me the story behind the wall unit. As we talked, I realized that the dentist was actually a very thoughtful man. He worked carefully, explained the treatment well, but he was also a great storyteller. Before I realized it, the treatment was over. I could breathe a sigh of relief again. The toothache had been successfully treated.

After the treatment, I felt proud. I had overcome a great fear and the treatment was not too bad in the end. I left the clinic with as big a smile as the dentist. Even though I still felt a slight fear of the dentist, I know which dentist to go to next time. This dentist not only took good care of my teeth. He could also put me at ease.
